First of all before I started my AS magazine cover, I went into a bit of research of front covers.
I took at look at a lot of covers which dealt with the ideas of: music/sport/fashion/health/girls. Mainly these magazines were: FHM, GQ, Vibe and FourFourTwo.
I took my inspiration from magazines such as that and studied there similaities, differences, good/bad points and why/why not I liked them. From doing this research, I gathered a better understand of how front covers are layed out, developed, formed and presented which then could lead on to helping me create a front cover of my own.
I found out that all of the magazines I came across only had one main/centeral image, dominating the cover, always relating to the type of genre the magazine is. E/g FHM - good looking women, Vibe - successful artist, GQ - someone in the spotlight/good looking/healthy and FourFourTwo - well known athlete/sports player or someone performing well.
Another thing that I noticed is that the magazine also has short and snappy subheadings that do not over fill the cover, but are enough information to catch the consumer’s attention and make them want to read on. The main articles that the magazines feature often stand out with bold or bigger writing than all the other sub-headings on the front cover.
